The return to training from the new year break has certainly gone fast. I hope athletes and parents were able to enjoy some time off throughout the holidays, as well as bank in some deserved sleep-in’s.

The next 4-weeks will certainly be busy, with MBS swimmers participating in a variety of training and competition events, including;

  • QGSSSA, CSSSAQ and GPS school swimming
  • 2024 QLD Sprint Championships
  • 2024 Brisbane Junior Metro Championships

MBS will also be represented on the world stage, with three of our members heading to the Persian Gulf, to attend the 2024 World Swimming Championships in Doha.

MBC Old Girl Amani Alobaidli, will represent Bahrain and contend in several events, as she looks to qualify for her first Olympic Games.

MBS Club Member Stephanie Au, will represent Hong Kong in a variety of individual and relay events. We wish Stephanie all the best, as the World Championships will also serve as a platform for Stephanie to qualify for her 5th Olympic Games!

I am pleased to announce that Coach Kevin Calmettes will also be headed to Doha, as a consulting coach for both the Bahrain and Hong Kong Swimming Teams. Having Kevin in Doha will not only support Amani and Stephanie, but will also provide Kevin with invaluable professional development – as less than 100 coaches worldwide receive accreditation to attend this meet, with only 5 coaches selected on the Australian Team.

Kevin will be away for 12-days, during which other squad coaches Misty, Alex and Lushy will step up to cover Kevin's duties.

Athletes in Kevin's National Squad can view amended training times for the period 8-20 February below.

New Staff Member - Introducing Alex Barnett

Alex was previously the head coach of the Elements Swimming Team - Coorparoo, managing the exercise prescription of swimmers in their development, bronze and silver squads.

"...After working in financial services for almost 4 years I needed a change in my life and went in the direction of sports coaching. It started as a hobby for me, doing some triathlon coaching while working as an accountant full time. It has turned into a career that I want to continue in for the foreseeable future. I want to develop myself as a coach and prepare myself for a career in swimming..."

We welcome Alex Barnett to the MBS Coaching Team.
