MBS Concludes a Stellar Campaign at the Queensland State Swimming Championships

The final day of the Queensland State Swimming Championships was a true test of resilience for the Moreton Bay Swimming Club (MBS). After a grueling week, our athletes powered through 24 swims on Day 7, achieving 11 personal bests (PBs) and showcasing their unwavering determination and grit.

Morning Heats – Finishing Strong:
Coaches Rick and Kevin emphasized the importance of recovery, nutrition, and focus as the championships drew to a close, and the swimmers delivered some remarkable results:

  • In the 50m Breaststroke, Hugh Perry dropped 1.2 seconds, William Gregory achieved a 1.1-second PB, and Angus Cran posted a massive 2.9-second PB.
  • The 200m Freestyle saw more standout performances: Rebecca Whiting shaved 3.4 seconds off her time, Annika Kobus achieved a 0.7-second PB, and Angus Cran dropped another 1.9 seconds. Harry Gibson continued his phenomenal improvement in the event, dropping 1.7 seconds to clock 2:08.0—bringing his total improvement this season to a staggering 12 seconds!

Finals Session – Strong Finishes:
The evening finals brought more inspiring swims:

  • Emily Robson backed up her heat swim with another PB, finishing 10th in the 50m Breaststroke.
  • Amani Alobaidli delivered a fantastic performance in the 100m Backstroke, finishing 6th with a time of 1:05.0.
  • Ashton Little demonstrated grit in the 200m Individual Medley (IM), achieving a 2.32-second PB and finishing 8th.
  • Siena Gibson capped off her incredible meet with a silver medal and PB in the 100m Butterfly, marking another standout achievement.
  • The championships ended on a high note, as Rose Purcell dominated the 1500m Freestyle, winning gold with an astonishing 26-second PB, a true demonstration of her distance prowess.

A Championship to Remember:
Over the seven days of competition, MBS swimmers delivered exceptional results:

  • 179 swims across the meet.
  • 98 personal bests, a reflection of the hard work, preparation, and commitment of our athletes and coaches.
  • A medal haul that included multiple golds, silvers, and bronzes, highlighting the depth and breadth of talent in our squad.
