Fly Day for Moreton Bay Swimming Club on Day Six of Queensland State Championships

Day six of the Queensland State Swimming Championships will forever be remembered as “Fly Day” for Moreton Bay Swimming Club (MBS). With 31 swims producing an astonishing 23 personal bests (PBs), it was not only the most successful day of the championships so far but also a showcase of MBS’s dominance in butterfly events.

Morning Heats – PB Frenzy:
The morning was a flurry of personal achievements, with standout performances across the board:

  • Rebecca Whiting delivered a fantastic swim in the 50m Butterfly, achieving a 1.54-second PB.
  • Drew Pennefather impressed in two events, with a 2.39-second PB in the 50m Butterfly and a massive 6.65-second PB in the 200m Freestyle.
  • Hugh Perry demonstrated his versatility with a 1.65-second PB in the 200m Individual Medley (IM).
  • Rose Purcell continued her stellar championships campaign, dropping 6.16 seconds in the 200m Freestyle.

Finals Session – Fly High, MBS:
The finals session was filled with thrilling moments, especially in the butterfly events:

  • Siena Gibson showcased her sprinting prowess to claim the silver medal in the 50m Butterfly.
  • Angus Cran delivered another standout performance, dominating the 100m Butterfly to win gold, solidifying his place as one of the meet’s top performers.
  • Isla Flett achieved a strong 9th place finish in the 100m Butterfly, highlighting her growth as a competitor.
  • Sean Lau put in a determined effort in the 1500m Freestyle, earning 8th place in the grueling event.
  • Rebecca Whiting rounded out the night with an 8th place finish in the 50m Butterfly, capping off a fantastic day for MBS.

A Day to Remember:
Day six was a testament to the hard work and focus of our swimmers, as well as the strategic preparation from coaches Rick and Kevin. The dominance in butterfly events, coupled with significant personal bests, highlighted the depth and strength of the MBS program.
